Market research has many formats
When people hear market research, they often imagine a quick survey. Surveys exist, but Interviewly usually recruits for projects where clients need richer answers: longer interviews, focus groups, in-home product testing, taste testing, diary studies, usability tests and expert conversations.
These projects help companies understand what people actually do, not only what they tick in a short questionnaire.
Longer interviews
A longer interview is usually a one-to-one conversation with a moderator. It may be online, by phone or in person. The moderator asks about your experience, choices, habits and reactions to ideas or materials.
Most interviews last between 45 and 90 minutes. Specialist or B2B interviews can be shorter when the topic is narrow, or longer when the client needs to understand a complex decision.
Focus groups
A focus group brings several participants into one discussion. A moderator guides the conversation, makes sure everyone has space to speak and may show concepts, packaging, advertising, websites or product ideas.
Groups are useful when clients want to hear how people react to each other, where opinions differ and what language people naturally use when they discuss a category.
In-home testing, diary studies and taste testing
In-home usage tests, often called IHUT, ask participants to use a product in normal conditions and then share feedback. That could be a household product, a pet product, a beauty item, food packaging or another everyday item.
Diary studies ask you to record short notes, photos or tasks over several days. Taste tests usually happen in a controlled setting where participants try samples and give reactions. These methods help clients see behaviour close to real life.
Why screening matters
Every project has criteria. A client may need people who use a certain type of app, buy in a specific category, care for someone with a condition, run a business function or make decisions at work.
That is why Interviewly asks screening questions. The goal is not to judge anyone. It is to match the right people with the right research, so the session is useful for both the client and the participant.
